Paris!

We made it!  After an all night flight (actually only 7  1/2 hours) when neither of us slept much due to someone’s very unhappy baby, we had no problems finding our way to the train, then the Metro into Paris.  After walking a few blocks dragging our suitcases, we located  our hotel in a lovely neighborhood…right next door to a sex shop.

The hotel is actually very nice

We grabbed a quick nap, then ventured out to find a little cafe where we enjoyed a couple of Elephant beers and frites, then went to explore.

Seeing Norte Dane was very sad!  Covered in scaffolding, missing windows, blackened towers, what a tragedy has befallen the beautiful cathedral.

But San Chappell did not disappoint,  the sunlight thorough the stained glass was glorious!

Also, as a plaque reader traveling with a non-plaque

reader, I was delighted to discover the

“Portable Plaque”!

We also found St Jacques Tower, the spot where French pilgrims came to be blessed before starting their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The church is gone now, but the tower remains.   It was tempting, but we decided it would not be wise to change plans and start our journey here.  Our feet recommended we keep our train  reservations to Bayonne and St Jean de Pied a Porte!

We were exhausted, so after a delicious dinner in a small nearby cafe, we went to our room.  We kept nodding off, and by nine o clock gave up the battle and officially went to bed.  And believe it or not, woke up twelve hours later, 10 am Paris time.  Did I say we were tired?

Had coffee and pastries for breakfast (the bread is stupid good!) and then off to see the highlights.

We took the Metro and walked, just taking in the sights and sounds of Paris.  We were surprised at the lack of car traffic.  We walked past some swanky shops, unfortunately we purchased nothing, Dick tried but says he couldn’t find anything good enough for me.  Sigh.  Sometimes it’s difficult being a princess.

We especially enjoyed the cafes and the  food!   We need to get walking soon, the bread and pastries of Paris are very enticing - and caloric!

Tomorrow we will meet up with Ron and Lu and Jim and Barb, one day closer to our pilgrimage!

  3. Looks grand, and the temptations, both visual and gastronomic, are entirely understandable. I don't think you'll have any trouble walking off those treats 😉. Just consider it fueling up!

Home again, home again, jiggety jig!

June 17th, And we are headed home! Goodbye pastries! Goodbye!  I am quite sure I will be doing a great deal of introspection in the next few days and weeks, and even months.  It has been an amazing experience and I am sorry to see it end.  Someone in a blog said, “I went on the Camino to find out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  I came home having learned what I want to be for the rest of my life. “ (Went back to review and realized I never finished or posted this entry!) Thanks for following our journey!
