Camino map and Pilgrim Credencial

It is a tradition on the Camino to get your Credencial (pilgrim passport)  stamped wherever you stay each night, as well as at churches, bars and cafes along the way.  If you want to receive your Compostela, which is a document of completion awarded to those who complete at least the last 100 km walking the Camino, you must present your completed Credencial at the pilgrim office in Santiago.  You are asked the reason for your pilgrimage and if you answer does not include a spiritual motivation, you receive an alternate certificate.

My credencial and stamps so far

This map is from my credencial.  So far we have walked from St Jean (not shown) to Roncevalles,
(upper right) to Zubiri, to Pamplona, to Ponte de Reina, to Estrella, where we are tonight.
So far I have walked 204,100 steps!  (At least according to my Apple watch.)

  1. Thanks for sharing the map and photos of your passport! I had heard about the passport but never seen images of one. I have downloaded the map so I can follow along as you continue your journey.

Home again, home again, jiggety jig!

June 17th, And we are headed home! Goodbye pastries! Goodbye!  I am quite sure I will be doing a great deal of introspection in the next few days and weeks, and even months.  It has been an amazing experience and I am sorry to see it end.  Someone in a blog said, “I went on the Camino to find out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  I came home having learned what I want to be for the rest of my life. “ (Went back to review and realized I never finished or posted this entry!) Thanks for following our journey!

Paris!

We made it!  After an all night flight (actually only 7  1/2 hours) when neither of us slept much due to someone’s very unhappy baby, we had no problems finding our way to the train, then the Metro into Paris.  After walking a few blocks dragging our suitcases, we located  our hotel in a lovely neighborhood…right next door to a sex shop. The hotel is actually very nice We grabbed a quick nap, then ventured out to find a little cafe where we enjoyed a couple of Elephant beers and frites, then went to explore. Seeing Norte Dane was very sad!  Covered in scaffolding, missing windows, blackened towers, what a tragedy has befallen the beautiful cathedral. But San Chappell did not disappoint,  the sunlight thorough the stained glass was glorious!   Also, as a plaque reader traveling with a non-plaque reader, I was delighted to discover the  “Portable Plaque”! We also found St Jacques Tower, the spot where French pilgrims came to be blessed before ...
